On March 24, 2013, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un came to see the floating restaurant Taedonggang, a vessel which was being built by the service personnel of the Korean People’s Army.
Being shown around the exterior and interior of the vessel, he was very pleased that, in faithful support of the Workers’ Party of Korea’s benevolent policies for the good of the people, the service personnel had made substantial progress in building the modern vessel in a short period.
He inquired about the finishing material that had been used in making the deck, saying that as the vessel was in effect a restaurant it was necessary to adhere to the principle of keeping the deck clean and hygienic.
He then looked round the dining rooms, stressing that good materials should be used in building the vessel as the quality of a structure would depend on the type of finishing materials.
He asked about the manufacturer of furniture and fittings to be put in the vessel and said that they should be of high quality, fine-looking and convenient for the people. He also stressed the need to pay close attention to ventilation in the dining rooms.
He went on:
The vessel will be a favourite haunt for the people. From now on, steps should be taken for the effective operation of the restaurant. It was one of General Kim Jong Il’s wishes to see our people having a meal in a modern restaurant floating on the Taedong River, a pride of Pyongyang. The modern vessel sailing up and down the river will add beauty and splendour to the city.
The vessel, now in operation, accentuates the picturesque scenery of Pyongyang.
