Recently, amazing transformations have taken place one after another across the country under the sagacious leadership of the Central Committee of the great Workers’ Party of Korea.
In particular, new streets were built in Pyongyang, the construction of which was undertaken to promote the wellbeing of the people.
Among the new streets is Rimhung Street, the second-stage project for building 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area. Inaugurated on April 16, 2024, it was a monumental creation symbolic of the era of comprehensive national prosperity.
Launched according to the decisions of the Eighth Congress of the WPK and the Sixth Plenary Meeting of its Eighth Central Committee, the street is a huge architectural group that embodies the WPK’s concept of architectural aesthetics, and ensures a perfect harmony of the Juche character, national identity, modernity and artistic beauty.
As intended by the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, the construction of the street was completed on the highest possible level—an ideal, world-class street resounding with the people’s happy laughter, an embodiment of his ennobling affection for the people, and an epitome of socialist civilization and prosperity.
At the Sixth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK he set it as the first major policy task for the following year to build more dwelling houses, a revolution that would bring about epochal changes and a project greatly favoured by the people. And despite his tight schedules for leading the revolution, he attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the second-stage project for building 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area and pressed the button of blasting.
In hearty response to his appeal and as intended by the WPK Central Committee, the workers engaged in the construction of the capital city waged a bold, three-dimensional campaign to complete the huge project—public and service buildings and facilities, apartment blocks with a total of 10 000 flats, which vary in shape, occupy an area of over 80 hectares and have a total floor space of more than a million square metres, etc.
The project demonstrated the country’s inexhaustible potentials and the startling speed of its development, and every building in the street mirrored Kim Jong Un’s creative view—setting out future-oriented, ambitious plans and carrying out all of them at the highest possible level.
He indicated ways for building the street as a modern urban area of unique design, a model and standard of the times—distributing buildings in the style of a folding screen, providing depth to the layout of the street, increasing its architectural density and ensuring an organic harmony between streets to meet the requirements for historical development. He also went into details about roofs of buildings, final-stage decoration of walls, decorative illuminations for public and service buildings and facilities, distribution of resting places, species of trees for landscaping, etc.
As he resolved all the problems arising in designing and construction work, the street was built in a splendid style, adding another brilliant page to the history of capital city construction. With the inauguration of the street in April 2024, the group for the construction of 50 000 flats in Pyongyang demonstrated its might as an elite force standing in the vanguard of the new construction revolution.
The picturesque scenery of the street—apartment blocks which differ in architectural style from those built at the first-stage housing project in the Hwasong area, sustain the Korean-style architectural features, characteristics, look imposing with various heights and shapes and are laid out in perfect harmony—is a clear proof of the validity and vitality of the WPK’s idea of architectural aesthetics.
As an epitome of socialist prosperity in the capital city of the dignified DPRK, the street deserves to be called a monumental creation in the great Kim Jong Un’s era that has once again demonstrated the veracity of the people-first idea of architecture. The successful completion of the project instilled in the people confidence in a bright future, as they make an all-out, general advance to attain the goals set forth at the Eighth Congress of the WPK on the strength of patriotism and unity under the wise leadership of its Central Committee.
